Stephens Historic Park Andersonville National Historic Site is the largest prison camp for Federal prisoners and now a national memorial to all American POWs. Many thousands of soldiers' aid societies were formed. The arrival of Union troops in any place in the rebelling South meant freedom for the slaves in that area. This gun possibly saw service with the Confederacy as there are no Federal or British Military Proofs on it and the Confederacy contracted for a large order of these weapons after an earlier contact with the State of Massachusetts. You and hundreds of other soldiers are packed together in this large fort. South Carolina was strongly in favor of seceding from the Union.
