The principal focus of the Journal is the study of living birds, their behavior, ecology, adaptive physiology and conservation. Ray also worked on Ornithologia which was then published posthumously in 1713 as Synopsis methodica avium et piscium. [10] Several ornithological works were also started in the late 1700s in France through the works of Mathurin Jacques Brisson (1723-1806) and Comte de Buffon (1707-1788). An applicant also must be sponsored by a member of the graduate faculty who has indicated his or her willingness to advise the student; the applicant should communicate with prospective faculty sponsors well in advance of the application deadline.
