Olhar para a história da América Latina é olhar para uma história cheia de contradições: a colonização branca, a dominação e, em muitas regiões, a dizimação do índio, a escravidão do negro; história de senhores, caudilhos, ditadores, democracias frágeis... Mas é também reconhecer o caminho de uma unidade continental, uma fraterna pátria grande, um continente de hermanos, caminho que se expressa especialmente na construção da identidade latino-americana.
A partir de 2008, um grupo de estudiosos passou a se reunir anualmente para apresentar suas pesquisas multi e trans-disciplinares sobre a presença da fraternidade, especialmente como categoria política, nos vários campos do saber e do agir na América do Sul.
O presente quantity recolhe uma seleção dos estudos apresentados nos primeiros quatro anos desse percurso. É o retrato de um processo acadêmico que traduz, ao mesmo pace, o estudo, a paixão e o compromisso de seus autores com a sorte do continente latino-americano.
